Ever Wonder How Much an Artist Makes Each Time You Listen to Their Song on Spotify?

After much criticism, including a boycott by Thom Yorke of Radiohead, and refusals from bands such as Led Zeppelin, Spotify finally reveals it’s royalty math on a new site aimed at artists: spotifyartist.com.  It was revealed Tuesday that rights holders are paid between 0.60 cent and 0.84 cent each time a user listens to a song.  With a catalog of 20 million songs, accessible in 32 countries, and 140 million total users with 40 million paying subscribers, Spotify has quickly become a competing alternative (or addition) to Pandora.  But according to The Wall Street Journal, Spotify claims one million listens on Spotify generates between $6,000 and $8,400, as compared with $1,300 and $1,500 on radio streaming services like Pandora.  Read on for more:
